MARCH-APRIL 2002 NEWSLETTER |

|
Following are a few articles from the March-April 2002 edition of the ASQ Section 1506 Newsletter, edited by Bart Johnson. If you are a Section 1506 member and did not receive this newsletter please let Bart know by phone, fax, or email. If you are not a Section member, but would like to join, just call ASQ at (800) 248-1946 and tell them that you want to join Section 1506. From the Section ChairJeff LackeyOur January and February meetings were both dynamite presentations. A big thanks to Dr. Jim Mirabella for a thought-provoking, eye-opening presentation in January about some of the concerns to be considered in developing sampling strategies. The presentation by Dr. Christine Ejlali summarizing her activities in Tennessee and now in McIntosh County Georgia in working with the Koalaty Kid program was very impressive. She demonstrated that quality improvement tools can be used to improve any process, even the education of our sons and daughters. Congratulations to both of our section's quality professionals. They clearly demonstrated a passion for making our world a better place to live. We are quickly moving into the home stretch of our section's activities for the 2001-2002 calendar-year. So I encourage you to mark your calendars for the following activities and meetings.
The March 16 training session is a great opportunity to learn how the ASQ organization functions, the services that are provided that you may not know about, and how you can help with its success and growth. All quality professionals are welcome to attend. March 22 and April 26 are regular monthly meetings. Details are given elsewhere for each of these events. The May 17 meeting will be a special meeting of recognition. We will celebrate and acknowledge the hard work of many of our peers. On that night, we will recognize all those who have received ASQ certifications over the last year and others in the section who have contributed to its success. If you have received a certification recently, you are invited and will receive a special invitation for you and a family member or friend as the section's guests. So plan on having a good time at Dave & Buster's and participating in our buffet supper. I am happy to report that two people followed up on my comments in the January/February newsletter and submitted applications for Senior membership. Both were approved and as you read this, they both should have received their new Senior member certificates. Congratulations to Robb Reynolds and Robert Hutcherson! If you think you are eligible, check out the ASQ.org web site for details, download the PDF file application form, and submit it to me (for the time being - see below) for review. By the way, both gentlemen have volunteered to upgrade our section's web site. Watch for improvements and more details later this spring. The Nominating committee has been busy putting together a slate of officers for 2002-2003. Their effort is not complete, however, and if you are interested in serving as an officer of the section, please contact Paul Koza, 904-443-3939, or Arnie Bray, 904-353-4401, and let them know of your interest. The list will be presented at the March meeting and elections will be conducted in April. One position vacant this year was Examining chair. A volunteer has been identified and thus in the coming year your applications for Senior member, etc. will be reviewed by the Examining Committee. If you want to be a program speaker or know someone who would at one of our meetings for 2002-2003, please give me a call at 904-443-3981, or via e-mail at jlackey@visus.jnj.com. Come to the March 16 training session, or the March 22 meeting and meet some of your quality friends in the Jacksonville area. I personally am looking forward to meeting you if we haven't met already. See you at the meeting. Upcoming Meetings-Section 1506March 22
