NOVEMBER 2001 NEWSLETTER |

Following are a few articles from the January-February 2002 edition of the ASQ Section 1506 Newsletter, edited by Bart Johnson. If you are a Section 1506 member and did not receive this newsletter please let Bart know by phone, fax, or email. If you are not a Section member, but would like to join, just call ASQ at (800) 248-1946 and tell them that you want to join Section 1506. From the Section ChairJeff LackeyOur October meeting was outstanding. We had super hosts. The presentations by Marshall Miller and Lou Gentz reinforced how disciplined quality systems help Anheuser-Busch produce such an esteemed, quality product. You missed a great meeting if you weren't there. Congratulations to Dee Reichard in winning the raffle, and also Marcia Henderson for correctly answering the final exam question!! The November 16th meeting features a workshop on evaluating measurement systems. The workshop is interactive and should give you a much better understanding of the subjects of GR&R and MSE. If nothing else, I can assure you that you will have a fun time. And you're welcome to "steal" the approach we use to teach this very important topic. Remember: Quality improvement begins with reliable measurements. Elsewhere in the newsletter you will find a breakdown of our Section's membership. The results show that 69% have joined ASQ since 1995 - 22% within the last two years. Thus many members are relatively new to the quality profession. They are likely to be hungry to acquire new quality improvement tools and skills. Let me encourage our more experienced quality professionals to share what they know by volunteering to be a speaker at one of our upcoming meetings. If you wish to do so, give me a call, send me an e-mail message, or catch me at the next meeting. I will be happy to talk about a potential topic and when we can put you on the program calendar. We still seek to fill a number of positions on the Section's Board. One in particular, Program Chair, has been vacated due to DeeAnn Barton's move to Orlando. This is a key position. If you're interested, please give me a call at 904-443-3981, or via e-mail at jlackey@visus.jnj.com. See you at the meeting. Read Any Good Books Lately? At future monthly meetings, Section 1506 will be giving away door prizes that will consist of recent or classic books in the field of quality. We welcome your input to the prize pool. If you have recently read a book that you would like to recommend for future prize drawings, please let us know. In addition, if you would like to contribute a book review for the publication, we would like to publish that review in a future edition of the newsletter. Book recommendations may be made to any section officer. We look forward to hearing from you. From the SecretaryPaul KozaSection 1506 is striving to ensure that notices of section meetings and events reach you on a timely basis. The section has an ongoing project to clean up our member database. This database is used for mailings and e-mail notices to the membership. You too can help with this project. Please take a moment to review your current membership status with ASQ headquarters with special focus on your mailing and e-mail addresses. The monthly newsletter for Section 1506 is available via e-mail. However, in order to receive e-mail from Section 1506 or from ASQ headquarters, you must give your permission to do so. You can review your membership status either on line at http://www.asqnet.org or by calling ASQ headquarters at 1-800-248-1946. If you have questions about this process, I would be happy to help you out. I can be reached at 904-443-3939. Thank you. Meeting Calendar
