Following are a few articles from the January-February 2002 edition of the ASQ Section 1506 Newsletter, edited by Bart Johnson. If you are a Section 1506 member and did not receive this newsletter please let Bart know by phone, fax, or email. If you are not a Section member, but would like to join, just call ASQ at (800) 248-1946 and tell them that you want to join Section 1506. Section 1506 is Back in Action! We are pleased to bring you the inaugural issue of our revived newsletter, and announce the re-activation of ASQ Section 1506. Several members, existing and new to the area, became aware in late June that the section was close to losing its status with ASQ headquarters due to inactivity. A flurry of e-mails and a couple of emergency meetings later, and the basic pieces were put in place to ensure the future of the section. Now we are focused on putting together a fun and productive year of activities. In this first issue of the newsletter we will cover the basics: the new section leadership, a preliminary meeting schedule, and a vision of things to come. In future issues, in addition to information about section affairs, look forward to some interesting technical content, and maybe a joke or two. From the New Section ChairJeff LackeyLet me introduce myself. My name is Jeff Lackey and I have agreed to serve as Section Chair of the Jacksonville-Northeast Florida ASQ section for the next year. Most of you do not know me since I am new to this area. I recently relocated from St. Louis where I was active in the section as Program Chair for the last three years. Prior to that I was the Professional Development Chair for the Akron-Canton (Ohio) section for several years. My first association with ASQC was in 1967 due to a very persistent friend (but that's another story for another newsletter). I allowed my membership to lapse when I returned to grad school, and I rejoined in 1984. I have been very active since then, and over the years, I have found that my professional life has been greatly enhanced through active participation in ASQ. The Jacksonville section has been inactive for the past year. Our goal is to reinvigorate the section and make it a viable, dynamic organization, one that all of us can be proud of. To do that will require a renewed commitment by many of us. I ask for your support and participation. We have put together a schedule for the next nine months that should include activities and topics of interest for most of our section's members. If you would like to see other activities or events offered, please let us know and we will try to include them in the schedule. Feel free to contact me or any of the board members with suggestions, I challenge you to attend the September meeting and check us out . See you at the meeting.
