Industry Experience

Herb has been in the rail industry for 30 years with assignments in; Service Design, Operations, Labor Relations, and Finance and currently is Director Process Improvement in the Process Excellence (Operations) group of CSX. CSX has engaged a matrix organization structure with four Process Improvement Teams cross functionally aligned with operating departments. Herb is lead in the Line of Road Infrastructure PIT, engaging Engineering and Line of Road Transportation functions. The Line of Road Infrastructure PIT has $1.3 Billion in annual expenses and has $149M of operating expenses targeted for reduction in 2009. Herb is a CSX certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He is also an ASQ certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Herb mentored two team submissions in the ASQ Team Excellence award competition. In 2007 CSX received a bronze award from ASQ for a project reducing fuel burn and emissions from its locomotives. Herb has been a regional judge in the Team Excellence competition on four occasions and has been selected twice as finalist judge. Herb has been a member of the American Society of Quality for seven years. Herb lives with his beautiful bride Linda in the seaside community of Ponta Vedra Beach Florida with their two dachshunds Ava and Lilly.
