The American Society for Quality (ASQ) has been the leading quality improvement organization in the United States for more than 50 years. Its members have initiated most of the quality methods used throughout the world, including statistical process control, quality cost measurement and control, total quality management, failure analysis, and zero defects.
What ASQ Offers
Network Opportunities
ASQ has more than 104,000 individual and 1,100 corporate sustaining members worldwide. Individual members belong to one of more than 250 local Sections located throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and an international chapter. ASQ also has 28 industry and topic-specific Divisions/Forums.
Professional Certification
Certification is formal recognition by ASQ that an individual has demonstrated proficiency within and a comprehension of a specified body of knowledge at a point in time. It is peer recognition and not registration or licensure. Since 1968, when the first ASQ certification exam was given, more than 85,000 individuals have become certified through ASQ, including many who have attained more than one designation. Although ASQ membership is not a prerequisite for certification, most of the people who hold one of these designations do belong to the Society.
Training
ASQ sponsors professional and technical development courses on a wide
range of quality topics. A complete listing of courses sponsored by ASQ
headquarters is in the ASQ Course catalog. Courses are taught by highly
qualified practitioners, academicians, and consultants, and provide
continuing education units (CEUs). Over 92% of attendees say they would
recommend the course they attended to a colleague. In-house courses, home
study reference materials, and technical tool institutes are also offered.
Many local sections also offer such courses.
Publications
The ASQ Quality Press offers peer-reviewed information, from the
fundamentals to the latest technology and advancements in quality. In
addition to hundreds of books, the Quality Press Publications Catalog
lists selected videotapes, standards, software, and technical documents.
Quality Progress, the ASQ monthly magazine, covers the latest development
on the topic of quality. Members consistently rate it one of the top
benefits of membership. On Q is the ASQ newsletter and journal of record,
