Ensures quality functions of operational goods and services used by CSX. Anticipates potential problems, identifies & resolves performance issues and problems that affect the reliability, maintainability, or availability of Mechanical (locomotive and freight car) and Infrastructure (track materials) components. Partners with Purchasing Managers to reduce life cycle cost of materials and components (both new and refurbished) for CSX while maintaining a high sensitivity to safety.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
Leads and conducts supplier inspections and audits using auditing principles outlined by the American Society for Quality.
Maintains communication with suppliers, purchasing managers and end-user on appropriate issues and improvements
Identifies potential problems and/or improvements with design of new products, specifications, components, and materials. Collaborates with CSX Operations, and suppliers to determine a resolution.
Maintains records for supplier inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
Supports purchasing managers in the development of new suppliers and/or existing suppliers of new components to improve reliability or reduce CSX cost.
Works closely with purchasing managers, engineering, end-users, and suppliers to resolve compliance issues and problems.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or Operations
More than 3 years of work experienced required
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree required in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or Operations
More than 5 years of work experienced required
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to meeting the above qualifications, the following are preferred:
Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
More than 5 years of experience in Track Engineering and/or Locomotive Maintenance, Locomotive Assembly, Freight Car Assembly, or Quality Engineering
Certifications/Licenses: Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineering (CQE), Professional Engineering (PE), American Society of Quality (ASQ) or Institute for Supply Management (ISM) certifications
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of mechanical systems
Ability to apply Quality Principles including ISO and M1003, etc.
Knowledge of hydraulic systems
Corrective action methodology skills
Knowledge of pneumatic systems
Ability to perform a formal root cause analysis
Knowledge of electrical systems
Knowledge of manufacturing, and production methodology
Knowledge of rail bound equipment, track engineering, and geometry
Knowledge of diesel combustion and freight car fundamentals
